A heartwarming romance about a woman who finds true love in a small town, from New York Times bestselling author, Jude Deveraux. Jocelyn Minton is a woman torn between two worlds. Her mother grew up attending private schools and afternoon teas, but she married the local handyman.
After her mother died when Joce was only five years old, her father remarried into his own class, and Joce became an outsider — until she met Edilean Harcourt. Although she was sixty years Joce’s senior, Miss Edi was a kindred soul who understood her like no one else ever had. When Miss Edi passes away, she leaves Joce all her worldly possessions, including an eighteenth-century house and a letter with clues to a mystery that began in In the letter, Miss Edi also mentions that she has found the perfect man for Joce — a handsome young lawyer.
Joce is shocked to learn that the mystery, the house, and the future love of her life are all in Edilean, a small town in Virginia that Miss Edi never told her about.
Hurt that the woman who meant so much to her kept so many secrets, Jocelyn moves to this tight-knit village in an attempt to understand the legacy that has been left to her. As she begins to dig into Miss Edi’s mystery, she soon discovers some shocking surprises about her family’s history and her own future — and she meets a man with his own mysterious past.

I don’t normally like “Romances” but I love Jude Deveraux’s and always have, not because they are literature, but because they are fun. She shows a very clever sense of humor that takes them out of the realm of “ordinary”.
They are always a good story and always a pleasure to read. I don’t read them for education; I read them for just plain fun and enjoy every minute of them. I also like that they are usually a series of interconnected books, so you can continue to enjoy the characters in further exploits.
There are things to be learned about Scottish history and antebellum America, but the main attraction, which cannot be over emphasized is that they are fast and fun and a lovely way lvaender spend an afternoon or two. Lavender Morning (Edilean, book 1) by Jude Deveraux
The twists and turns in Lavender Morning are so unexpected that you won’t be able to put this book down! The characters are well-developed and likeable, and the inhabitants of Edilean are so interesting that you’ll be looking for another book in the series ASAP! Jude Deveraux seems to write for those of us who want the fantasy. The over-the-top characters and situations. If you are looking for gritty realism and everyday encounters, for everyday problems to plague the heroine, then you won’t like this particular New York Times best-selling author.
If you want a happy read that is full of characters with personality and a zest for life, then try this out. Jude has written about 60 books, I believe, most of them on the best-seller list. So dive right in and enjoy this particular one! Mass Market Paperback Verified Purchase.
When I want a fun book with chuckles, I grab this one to read. I love this series! I was sucked ujde this world and forced to reluctantly leave as the last page was finished! I am what to start the next book. I found this book really confusing as to all the characters. It would have been helpful if a generational tree? I never could figure out how each character was related to the other.
Also, did I miss something? Why did Eric McDowell owe Edi anything? I am sorry but I was not interested enough to want to read the next book in the Edilean series. It is the only book written by Jude Deveraux I have been disappointed in. I like a little suspense with my romance, but this story goes beyond little white lies. A whole town keeping secrets. A woman seeking the truth finds only the lies underneath, and a romance that breaks all the rules.
The book was good, though it was a little choppy. The ending left me hanging.
