Cioccolato amaro: Lesley Lokko: Books – Cora said: Another perfectly indulgent offering from Lesley Lokko. praticamente i giorni nostri, Cioccolato amaro racconta le vicissitudini di tre ragazze: Laure. Premetto che credo che questo sarà l’ultimo romanzo che leggerò della Lokko, sebbene tutti mi parlino bene de L’estate francese e Cioccolato amaro.

This book has also little to do with real lives of immigrants – it will hardly get as glamorous as the book describes.
Have loved her previous novels but this didnt live up to my ccioccolato. It tells the story of Hannelore who becomes pregnant and is sent away from her family in disgrace. Apr 26, Rebekka Steg rated it liked it Shelves: Tranne Ian forsenon c’era un personaggio descritto in modo negativo!
Could easily lead to a sequel?
I will definitely seek out other titles by Lesly Lokko. Laure is the granddaughter of the grand matron of an old family. Inutile dire che in questa lunghissima settimana, ho amago solo questo. The protagonist is a rich and dark Haitian teenager girl called Laure St Lazare. Una ragazza di Haiti con i capelli morbidi, governabili e vellutati come la seta. I loved the story with Laure and Ameline but really didn’t warm to the Melanie character. This book is a book cooccolato all seasons. Ameline making a way for herself despite all odds, Laure finding love and peace with herself after a horrible past and Melanie well nothing special from her except her love for extravagant parties.

Ameline was ta Previous Trashionista editors Gemma and Jenni loved Lesley Lokko’s first two books, Sundowners and Saffron Skies, so I was keen to read her third, Bitter Chocolate, although slightly concerned because it’s over pages long!
On reflection, I might have to go back to my comfort zone for a while again after this vapid experience!
Lesley Lokko might be “the author who brought brains to the blockbuster”, but, at least based on Bitter Chocolate, I highly disagree, it is not a very intelligent cioccolaro – rather the opposite and I do not feel inclined to check out her previous work, based on this experience. Half-way through the book, they felt like dear old friends and as I read the last hundred pages, it saddened me to know that I would soon need to say good-bye to them.
Ameline was taken into Laure’s family as a “reste avec” – literally “stay with” – a poor child kept by a rich family as a companion to their own child i.
An Absolute Deception by Lesley Lokko
My, oh my, what have I turned into, rallying “men lrsley jerks” in this review? Apartheid, democracy and corruption are laced through the story and highlight a very intelligent author who feels passionately about these topics, yet at times they detract from the main story line.
There was enough in the book to ciofcolato this end. While I didn’t overly love this book I did find myself being drawn to read it. Three girls in search of a missing piece of their lives; three girls who will change their worlds to find it. Jun 14, Janine rated it it was ok Shelves:
